Scope of Work: -
Tourism is one of the key growth drivers of Assam's economy, generating employment opportunities for youth and promoting the State's rich natural, cultural, and heritage assets. With the increasing focus on sustainable tourism and visitor experience, there is a pressing need to enhance the skills, professionalism, and awareness of stakeholders associated with the tourism sector.
The Directorate of Tourism, Assam, proposes to conduct a series of structured training and awareness programmes in collaboration with the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) to strengthen human resources in the tourism sector and align them with national and international service standards.
Objectives of the Proposal
The key objectives of the proposed training programmes are:
1. To develop a skilled and professional tourism workforce in Assam
2. To enhance employability and entrepreneurship opportunities for local youth
3. To improve tourist experience and destination competitiveness
4. To promote responsible, sustainable, and community-based tourism
5. To create awareness about tourism potential and career opportunities
Proposed Training Programmes
1. Tourist Guide Training Programme
Objective:
To create a pool of knowledgeable, skilled, and certified tourist guides capable of delivering highquality interpretation and visitor services.
Proposed Training Contents:
- Introduction to Tourism & Role of Tourist Guides
- History, Culture, Heritage & Major Tourist Attractions
- Art, Architecture & Local Traditions
- Communication & Interpretation Skills
- Tour Planning & Group Handling Techniques
- Visitor Safety, First Aid & Emergency Response
- Responsible Tourism & Sustainability Practices
- Ethics, Professional Conduct & Legal Provisions
- Practical Field Visits & Mock Guiding Sessions
Duration & Schedule:
Duration: 2 weeks (including classroom sessions and field practical)
Schedule: Full-time/Modular

- Members of tourism cooperatives/SHGs
- Expected Number of Trainees: 30 Nos
No of Days: 14 Days
Proposed Districts/ Destinations: (Goalpara+Bangaigaon), (Dibrugarh+Tinsukia), (Lakhimpur+Dhemaji), (Cachar+Karimganj+Hailakandi)
2. Foreign Language Training Programme
Objective:
To enhance foreign language communication skills for effective interaction with international tourists.
Languages Proposed:
- English (advanced spoken English)
- French/German/Japanese (based on tourist inflow)
Proposed Training Contents:
- Basic Grammar & Vocabulary for Tourism
- Conversational Skills & Pronunciation
- Tourism-specific Terminology
- Handling Tourist Queries & Complaints
- Cultural Sensitivity & Cross-cultural Communication
- Role Plays & Practical Conversations
Duration & Schedule:
Duration: 1 month
Schedule: Part-time (3-4 hours per day)

3. Capacity Building Training Programme
Objective:
To strengthen managerial, operational, and digital capabilities of tourism stakeholders and Institutions.
Proposed Training Contents:
- Tourism Policy, Planning & Development
- Destination Management & Marketing
- Digital Marketing & Use of Social Media in Tourism
- Customer Service Excellence
- Financial Management & Entrepreneurship
- Use of Technology & Online Booking Platforms
- Sustainable & Responsible Tourism Practices
- Crisis Management & Risk Mitigation
Duration & Schedule:
Duration: 5-7 days (short-term intensive programmes)
Schedule: Residential/Non-residential workshops

4. Tourism Awareness Programme
Objective:
To sensitize local communities and frontline stakeholders about tourism benefits, responsibilities, and sustainable practices.

- Importance & Economic Benefits of Tourism
- Role of Local Community in Tourism Development
- Cleanliness, Hygiene & Swachh Tourism
- Tourist-Friendly Behaviour & Hospitality
- Preservation of Culture, Heritage & Environment
- Safety, Security & Tourist Assistance
- Responsible Tourism & Community Participation

Duration: 1-3 days
Schedule: Camps/Outreach programmes/Village-level workshops
Target Group/Stakeholders:
- Local communities in tourist areas
- Panchayati Raj Institutions/Urban Local Bodies
- Taxi/Auto drivers
- Police, Home Guards & frontline staff
- Students & youth clubs
Expected Number of Trainees: 30 Nos.
No of Days: 3 Days
Proposed Districts/ Destinations: Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Dhemaji
5. Implementation Strategy
- Programmes to be conducted across various districts of Assam
- Training through classroom sessions, workshops, and field exposure
- Engagement of certified trainers, industry experts, and academic institutions
- Assessment, certification, and documentation of trainees
- Video and Still Photograph documentation of the training programs.
